What It Is: The Chip Lever - a small spring-loaded mechanical lever inside the toner cartridge cavity that presses the cartridge's memory chip firmly against the printer's chip-contact pins so the printer can read the cartridge's toner-level and authentication data. A broken, weak or misaligned chip lever causes the printer to report 'cartridge not recognized', a false toner-empty error with a full cartridge, or the toner-level gauge failing to update at all.
