What It Is: The RD+BD / Ribbon Drive Assembly (also called the Belt Drive Assembly or Ribbon Drive Gear) - the geared mechanism that drives the toothed belt moving the ribbon cartridge back and forth across the print head as the printer prints. A worn or slipping ribbon drive assembly causes the ribbon to stop advancing, one side of the printout to fade while the other stays dark and legible, or the ribbon to jam mid-print.
